American Silver Eagles (1986-Present)

The obverse was designed by Adolph Weinman who also designed the Mercury Dime and Walking Liberty Half. John Mercanti designed the reverse for this issue. Just about everybody agree that this is one of the best-designed coins ever produced by the US mint. Congress enacted the Liberty Coin Act in 1985 with the intent to produce one-ounce coins so people could put away silver, gold, and platinum bullion coins. This act authorized the US Mint to produce sufficient quantities for the public demand.
