Market report from Las Vegas PCGS members event Nov 19-21! PLATINUM in play especially PCGS 69/70-ALERT!!! There were 25 dealers in attendance: Heritage young Ryan Cook and Ryan Carroll the EYE, Spectrum, Kenny Duncan, Gary Adkins, Don Whritenour, Lee Minshull, Don Rinkor and Larry Shapiro, DLRC John Brush and Jason Smith, the man with the golden eye-Mark Chrans and Mr. Stephenson, gracious Bill Shamhart who helped me as always, Jim Curtis who is at a loss with his 54 yr old bro passing this week, Silvano who is the only dealer who has one name, and some other dealers who wanted way too much for their coins. And of course one of the most knowledgeable and fantastic memory coin experts ever, Mr John Dannreuther or "Sir" as always in his unassuming attire and southern charm. I cannot believe his OUTSTANDING memory as he actually remembered a small time dealer like me who retired 10 years ago.
One dealer offered me "wholesale" a nicely toned generic 1923 ms64 monster toned Peace for $1800 as the last one SOLD for 2300. Coins like this set a collector up for failure and Cameo CC wants all coin collectors to have fun, enjoy the beautiful coins, make some $ down the road, and own some US history. I buy RIGHT. Look at the monster Morgan featured below that I bought at sheet. I just looked at Heritage auction and weaker lesser coins sold for 2K. This is exactly the type of coin CAMEO CC stands for as it has three positives in play: low pop, top VAM, monster toned, and 65pl for registry sets. Pop 44 with 3 higher, Pop 1 Vam, monster tones, and registry ready! This coin could tell stories about US history.
There were only a dozen or so "buyers" or retail registry set people as there were only 40-50 people in room and all I KNOW all the dealers (they have special badges). They were at Vegas to submit coins to PCGS at dealer rates and buy coins. One guy spent 50K on Wed as I was next to him when he wrote the check for 5 coins. Better dates, PL and DMPL, better VAMS, monster toned, blast white blazers with rim toning and not dipped out, and coins that have eye appeal to YOU! Cameo CC believes in this formula as time has taught me quality and low population coins serve you very well over time. I believe the coins from 500-2500 are the right price point to find this genre of Morgans or Peace depending on goals, needs, and reality.
Thanks for allowing Cameo CC to serve YOU!
